a heart for serving this vast nation is invited to apply.

Artists are responsible for their own expenses and travel arrangements and for communication with each venue organizer. Arts Exchange – China 08 is responsible to provide orientation material and for appropriately matching artists applicants with venue organizers across China.
What is an Artist Application?
A completed application includes:
1. Application form for each group of individual
2. Scan of passports for each person traveling
3. Two reference forms for each group or individual
4. Signed partnership agreement
5. Professional media packet
6. Application fee
What's in a Media Packet?
Your media packet will be used to communicate to prospective venue organizers across China what your group can bring to their community. It will be your ‘electronic audition’. Color photos, CDs, DVDs and video files will be used to advertise your events. Government officials are also interested in seeing exactly what you will be performing.
A professional media packet takes time to assemble. Start soon! Your packet should include:
1. Color Photos – at least 1MB each
Head shots of each group member
Action shots of each individual in costume
Small group action shots in costume
At least 3 photos of the full group in action
At least 2 photos of the group posed in costume
For visual artists –
Send at least 4 quality photos of your art work that is representative of what you will bring to China as well as a photo of yourself.
2. Video/DVD
We need short edited clips of your performances. Please take time to edit down long performances to a few clips totaling 2-3 min showing variety. Remember this country does not allow obvious religious content.
3. Articles for Press Release
Send three articles – one short, one longer and one of a human interest nature. An example of ‘human interest’ might be about one of the members of your group discovering that they have family in China who they are going to meet for the first time. Or perhaps about someone who always wanted to visit China and never thought it would be possible until now - something that catches people’s interest.
Workshops and Seminars
While in China there may be opportunity to share your art – dance, music, fine art – with Chinese people through the presentations, demonstrations, workshops or seminars. If you are someone who has experience teaching and would like to do this please make a note of that on your application. We will look for teaching opportunities for you.
Learning English is something many Chinese people are interested in. If you can be prepared to incorporate some English vocabulary words into your presentation it may open doors for you. There are a series of schools in Western China looking for artists who can also reinforce verbal English learning for their students.
